Disability support

Refer to Kensington campus accessibility routes map for access to buildings, parking and lifts.

Access to the Main Library is via an accessibility ramp located on the right side of the front entrance opposite the Library lawn.

There are lifts available to all levels at the Main Library, Law Library and Paddington Library.

For convenience:

  • Bookable height-adjustable desks available at Main Library on Level 4, 7 and in Postgraduate study space.
  • Additional height-adjustable desks available at Main Library on Levels 3 and 6.
  • Height-adjustable collaborative desks available at Paddington Library.
  • Accessible water bubblers in the lift lobby of all levels of the Main Library.
  • Self-service loan laptop lockers - Locker at an accessible height at Paddington Library and two lockers at both Main and Law Library.
  • See below for further information on particular spaces and the accessible and ambulant toilets.

Services

Students who have registered with Equitable Learning Services can access the following general services if required.

  • Individual Library tours
  • Assistance with using Library resources both online and print
  • Assistance with retrieving items from shelves
  • Assistance with photocopying

To request these services, submit an Ask a question form. Select Disability Support Request in the drop-down menu under Enquiry Type in the General Enquiry section.

Neutral sensory study space

The Neutral sensory study space has a reduced number of lights and provides an inclusive low light study environment. Each desk has an individual light if required. This space is located on Levels 3 and 6, Main Library near the rear stairwell (behind the lifts).

Assistive technology centre

Students who have registered with Equitable Learning Services can access the assistive technology rooms.

  • Main Library (Level 2, room 207)
  • Law Library (Level 1, room 113)

All equipment in the room is managed and serviced by Equitable Learning Services. Equipment includes:

  • computers, printer and scanner with large print display monitors and accessories
  • ergonomic desks and chairs
  • work bench
  • lockers.

Accessible and ambulant toilets

Wheelchair accessible toilets are available at each Library. An ambulant toilet is available in most women’s and men’s toilets in the Library.

Main Library

Accessible unisex toilets with baby change tables - Levels 2, 3 and 4.

Law Library

Accessible unisex toilet with baby change table - Ground Level.

Paddington Library

Toilets including ambulant cubicle and accessible unisex - outside the Library (lifts available to access other levels).

UNSW Library is continually working to improve the accessibility of our web pages and Library collection. This includes improving accessibility for users of assistive technology and screen reader software.
