Main Library - Kensington Campus

Accessible information about UNSW Main Library.

Getting to campus

Public transport

  • The closest light rail stop is UNSW High Street.
  • The closest bus stops are on High Street, near Gate 8.

Parking and drop off

  • The closest entry is Gate 11. The car park is located near the back of the Library.
  • The closest drop-off point with direct visibility to the Library building is Gate 8.

Entrance and lifts

  • UNSW Library is wheelchair friendly.
  • An access ramp is at the front entrance opposite the Library lawn.
  • There are two accessible entrances to the lifts - from the Library front entrance, or from the breezeway at the back of the Library, near the Gate 11 car park.

Moving inside the Library

  • Library staff at the Help Zone are available to provide directions if you need assistance - the Help Zone is located on Level 2 (ground floor) as you enter through the front entrance.
  • Allow extra time to move around during term time, as there can be many people on campus and inside the Library.

Sensory environments

  • The campus and the Library can be noisy or have strong smells at times, particularly during term.
  • If you need space away from others, visit the Silent areas on Levels 6 and 7, Retreat Space on Level 3, or the low light neutral sensory study spaces on Levels 3 and 6 near the rear stairwell (behind the lifts).

Emergency procedure

If a fire alarm activates, follow instructions from Library staff.

Toilet locations

  • Men's toilets are on Levels 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7.
  • Women's toilets are on Levels 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8.
  • An ambulant cubical is available in most toilets.
  • Accessible unisex toilets with baby change tables are on Levels 2, 3 and 4.

Law Library - Kensington Campus

Getting to campus

Public transport

  • The closest light rail stop is UNSW Anzac Parade.
  • The closest bus stops are on Anzac Parade near the main UNSW entrance, and High Street near Gate 2.

  • The closest vehicle entrance is Gate 2.
  • The closest drop-off point is Union Road, next to the Law and Justice Building.

  • Enter from Ground Level of the Law and Justice building, via Union Road or University Mall.
  • A set of internal stairs and a lift are inside the Library.

  • An accessible unisex toilet with a baby change table is on Ground Level.

Paddington Library - Art & Design Campus

Accessible information about UNSW Paddington Library, located in UNSW Art & Design (Paddington campus).

Getting to campus

Public transport

  • Parking is extremely limited so we recommend using public transport to visit the Paddington campus.
  • A shuttle bus is available between Kensington and Paddington campuses.

UNSW Paddington Library is on the Ground Level of Block D and accessible by wheelchair.

The campus provides accessibility resources including accessibility maps, a visual story and sensory maps.

Moving inside the Library

  • Library staff at the Help Zone are available to provide directions if you need assistance - the Help Zone is located inside the Library as you enter through the Library main entrance.

  • The campus and the Library can be noisy or have strong smells at times, particularly during term.
  • If you need space away from others, visit a quiet space listed on one of the Sensory Maps in Accessibility resources.

Toilet locations

Toilets, including ambulant cubicle and accessible unisex toilets, are outside the Library. Lifts are available to access toilets on other levels in Block D.


Event accessibility

The Library holds events in person, online, or in a hybrid format. We also hold events in Teaching Commons or other locations on Kensington Campus.

Contact an event organiser in advance if you need extra support. Find their contact details on each event information page.

Participation and consent

You can leave an event at any time. If an event requires sign in or your consent to participate, we may ask you to sign out or withdraw consent.

We record or photograph some events. Speak with an event organiser if you do not wish to be recorded or photographed.

Online events

  • We hold online events on Microsoft Teams, which provides AI-assisted live caption functionality.
  • You can request a phone number or an alternative dial-in method to join online and hybrid events.
  • We may record events and make them available for participants to watch or listen to later.
  • Microsoft Teams recordings include automatically generated captions and transcripts.

Content format

If you have a preferred accessible content format, contact the event organiser in advance to discuss.

 

Vision assistance

If you prefer additional verbal descriptions for visual content, contact the event organiser in advance to discuss.

Hearing assistance

Microphones are available for Main Library Level 5, Room 506, Room 209 and Library Study Lounge. Contact the event organiser to ensure this equipment is available.
