Collection Maintenance Framework
Purpose
The Collection Maintenance Framework (CMF) ensures the integrity and continuing access to our unique print resources which are critical to the scholarly research, teaching and learning of UNSW and the academic community.
Scope
The CMF is implemented across UNSW Sydney Main Library print book collections. Some subjects with a higher proportion of books that are unique or difficult to replace are excluded from the CMF. Journals are not in scope.
Paddington and Law Library collections are out of scope of the CMF, however similar collection principles are applied with specialised criteria determined by disciplinary requirements.
Collection Principles
The following collection principles form the criteria for retention on open shelves, Library storage, or offsite storage. Books that do not match any of the criteria for retention are identified as candidates for deselection.
- Last national copy
- UNSW author
- Core to collection
- Scholarly record
- Unique
- Australian and Papua New Guinean (PNG) publications
- Australian Indigenous knowledge publications
- Australian Records Management Standards (7 year usage schedule)
