Biography

Annette McGuiness was appointed as the Library Manager of the Academy Library, UNSW Canberra in December 2014. Annette has over 25 years of experience in the library and information industry, with a majority of her work being in academic libraries. Annette was previously at UNSW Canberra from 1998-2007 where she was one of the development team leaders and the Co-Content Manager of AusLit, a key Australian literature discovery service. Annette was the Library Manager of the Canberra campus of the Australian Catholic University (ACU) from 2007 to 2014, where she held a number of senior management roles at the national as well as the local levels.

Annette is an Associate Member of the Australian Library and Information Association and she has been an active committee member (1998-2021) and Convenor (2006-2010, 2020-2021) of the ALIA Universities and Research Libraries (ACT) group. Annette’s involvement in committees and other professional groups and activities has enabled her to build an extensive network of relationships across the academic, research and national library sectors.

Annette has three work passions - information; technology; and people, with the strongest emphasis being on people - clients, colleagues and library staff. Facilitating people to discover and develop their talents and capabilities in tandem with service improvements is important to Annette as is her focus on the client and on delivering valued and valuable library services

Annette's qualifications include a Master of Business Administration (UC), Graduate Diploma of Library & Information Management (UC), Bachelor of Arts (UCQ) and Cert IV in Training and Assessment (CIT).
